Welcome our sweet lady Penny. Penny has a sad story and quite a mystery that we are still trying to figure out. Penny was surrendered to the local kill shelter on Christmas Eve with her sister. Unfortunately her sister was euthanized due to having supposed cancer. We received a desperate plea from the shelter to get Penny out and decided to bring Penny into the Freedom First Rescue family.
Here’s the kicker…. When Penny was surrendered her previous owner told the shelter her leg was amputated in the last 1-2 months because she had cancer. The previous owner has no idea what kind of cancer she had or what vet they used to have the leg amputated. We have called veterinary laboratories and about every vet hospital we can think of in the area Penny used to live to try and find these records but all are dead ends. It’s clear Penny recently had her leg amputated because you can still see where they shaved her surgically.
Penny had a full work up with our vet, and after further investigation, it was shown that she has a large abdominal mass and swollen lymph nodes. She likely has lymphoma. Due to Penny’s medical issues, we have decided to keep her as comfortable as possible and spoil her rotten the time she has left with us.
