đź’› Meet Addy đź’›

There comes a point in rescue where you stop asking, “How could someone do this?” because you’ve seen it happen too many times.

Another senior dog.

Another shelter intake.

Another heartbreaking reminder that some people choose to throw away the very dogs who spent their entire lives loving them.

Addy is an 11-year-old Lab mix who arrived at the shelter as a stray. But anyone who has spent even five minutes with her knows this wasn’t a dog who had spent her life wandering the streets. She knows what it’s like to live in a home. She knows how to be someone’s companion. She knows how to love.

Somewhere along the way, someone decided they no longer wanted the dog who had given them the very best years of her life.

Despite everything she’s been through, Addy hasn’t given up on people.

She still greets everyone with a wagging tail and kind eyes. She adores every person she meets, gets along wonderfully with other dogs, and is fully house-trained. She’s the kind of dog who asks for so little—a soft bed, a gentle hand, and someone who won’t leave her behind again.

When Addy arrived at the shelter, staff discovered a large mass on the back of her leg. The shelter quickly had it removed, and the biopsy identified it as a low-grade mast cell tumor. Thankfully, the cancer has not spread anywhere else at this time, which is wonderful news.

However, the biopsy also showed that the tumor was not completely removed, meaning cancer cells remain at the surgical site. Once Addy arrives in our care, she will undergo a full medical workup and meet with our veterinary team for a surgical consultation so we can determine the best next steps to give her every opportunity for a healthy future.

She’s not defined by her diagnosis.

She’s defined by her resilience.

By the way she still trusts.

By the way she still loves.

By the way she still believes there is someone out there who will never abandon her again.

We know senior dogs are often overlooked. We know medical needs can make people hesitate.

But we also know there is nothing quite like the love of an old dog.

They don’t ask for much. They simply want to belong.

Our promise to Addy is that she’ll never be disposable again. Now we’re searching for the person who will show her that the best chapter of her life is still waiting to be written.

If you have room in your heart for a gentle soul who has so much love left to give, Addy is waiting.
